Despite the freezing cold Missouri winter-weather, new and exciting things are happening!

I am performing a solo show at The Blue Note this Thursday (Stop Day) the 9th opening for Candy Coburn! Doors are at 7:30, and there's a 10 dollar charge but it's a benefit for the Susan G Komen fund so it's for a good cause (aka not me!! I will not blow your money because I won't get it! Rest assured. It will be put to use in a good way instead of gambled away on lotto tickets.).

Then I'm back at The Blue Note Saturday December 18th with the band! We're opening for La Movida, Phylshawn, and The Future Kings. It should be a fun show. We play first, and it's FREE!! I hope to see you there. Come up and get free hugs! What a great deal. Swell.

Then the next day I am heading to Austin, TX to record some more at Jumping Dog Studios with Ron Flynt and Walt Wilkins. I'm really excited. I am currently working hard, plotting out 12 songs to at least start down there. End goal? 1st album perhaps. In case you didn't know, I am completely in love with Austin, TX so I'm thrilled to be going back there!

Hope you're keeping warm! Much love from my crappy little apartment,

She tries to catch a starry night in a jar.
All the blues run past the window panes,
yesterday’s sunlight fuels the trees veins,
and the moon is on the sky’s shoulders
like a child clinging tightly to her father’s neck.

The woods are dark;
there’s dark everywhere.
There’s dark in her eyes
and dark in her mouth.
Dark seeping under her bedroom door,
and dark rattling the screened windows.

There’s dark hugging the moon
and dark pulling in daylight soon.

Her eyes heavy with sleep
and her jar heavy with stars
she floats above the trees,
light as a child clinging tightly to her father’s neck
and full of dreams like a child clinging to night.

Over the summer, my old band (Anodyne) came to the mutual agreement to stop playing with each other. Wasn't a bad breakup, we are still writing on each other's facebooks (the true test of friendship) and being supportive of each other musically. We just got a little burnt out.

But I thought I'd take the chance to introduce the new band I've been playing with! Our first show playing together will be the Shannon McNally show (which we are really excited for), Friday October 22nd at Mojo's! Please please please come if you can! We promise it'll be fun.

Anyway, the new band is as follows:

Dan Steiner - bass
Jeff Berry - kick ass lead guitar
Nathan Smith - drums and hopefully xylophone (I haven't told him this part yet)
and my good friend Katy Mooney has been singing harmonies with me and I love her! She is the Kelly to my Neko.

Speaking of Neko, check out my awesome dog Neko:

Isn't she hilarious? She's my favorite dog in the world. If you don't know this about me... when I was in 6th grade I was taking piano lessons from my 2nd piano teacher of 4 throughout my life, Sutu Forte. She is an amazing person and musician, and I learned so much from her. She's the first person to encourage me to play the music I want to play instead of being forced to play classical, and she encouraged me to write songs even though I told her incredulously "why would you think I could do that?! No one can do that." And once she asked me what I wanted to play, and I told her something "loud and fun," so she taught me jazz piano!

I'm getting off topic. The anecdote I was aiming to tell is this: we were playing piano at a retirement home, and I've always been an old lady magnet so I was in my element. I love old ladies, and they love me (it's weird). Anyway, we each had to say something about ourselves into the microphone before we played a tune, and I've always been a shy kid, so I kind of stuttered and said "I'm Molly. I like dogs." So after that everyone who was older than me would get up and make fun of me by saying, "My name's Joe... and I like dogs too." Story of my life. So yeah, my name's Molly, and I like dogs.

Come see the new band at Mojo's!! I was nervous about it, but I think we're ready! And Shannon McNally will be awesome.

.

Isn't this a music blog for my band? Whoops. Give me a keyboard, and I'll never stop rambling past the point.

in recent news...

It's been a while since I've performed, and I've found I really miss it. Thankfully, we just announced an upcoming show at Mojo's on Friday, October 22 opening for Shannon McNally! Come out and see us. It'll be a chance to hear the new band (yes, I have spent the hiatus writing more songs and forming a new band), and hear some new material.

I just thought I should acknowledge the fact that I finally got a website. The new myspace format was really looking crappy and getting annoying, plus it gave away the fact that I was so utterly bored that I did an online audition for American Idol in my apartment. Yes, I really was THAT bored! It was terrible. Both the boredom and the audition. Don't watch it.

Anyway, I've spent a good chunk of OCD time writing the code myself and figuring out all the glitches that come with websites. It's been frustrating, but hopefully these results are worth it!

In other news, I'm working on going to Austin, TX this winter break to record some more! I'll keep you all updated.

Thank you so much for all your love and support. It really means a lot to me. Hope to see you at a show sometime soon!

love,
molly
